Kill Chain

The hitman's method is simple: Find. Track. Target. Kill.

“Get in,” he said.

“Cut to chase, Tim. What's going on?”

He gave me a glance, all portent. “Somebody has taken my wife and your father. The key to getting them back is in that envelope you have in your backpack. We're going to find it, and then I'm going to find out what those men outside your house know about it. And it's going to be ugly.”

“I know Dad was an intelligence officer. And that he knew Jax. I can deal with clandestine ops.”

He stared at me across the roof of the car as though about to deliver the punchline to a tasteless joke. “Forget clandestine ops. This is about hookers, guns and money.”

When her father’s car is found wrecked at the bottom of a California ravine, Evan Delaney feels sure that he has been abducted or killed for reasons associated with his work for Naval Intelligence, but the FBI thinks Phil’s fled the country to avoid prosecution.

Then Evan receives a sinister phone call and her suspicions are confirmed: Phil Delaney has been kidnapped.  Evan has only 72 hours to find what they want – or she and her loved ones will find themselves at the end of the kill chain.

“One of my favourite books this year. I loved every minute of it. A breathtaking thriller, gripping and relentless – Meg Gardiner takes us to places we hope we’ll never have to go in reality. But be warned, if you’re on the beach sunbathing, do not risk even the first chapter. Once you’ve started you’ll be so engrossed you’ll be sunburnt before you know it. I certainly was.” Caroline Carver
